Van Persie commits to one more year at Feyenoord

Robin van Persie will stay at Feyenoord for the 2018-19 season, the club have confirmed.

The striker returned to his boyhood team in January, signing a contract that contained a clause allowing both parties to assess the situation at the end of the season.

Feyenoord announced on Tuesday the 34-year-old has agreed to continue his second spell at De Kuip for at least another year.

Robin van Persie has agreed to add one more season to his playing career at De Kuip, a club statement confirmed.

The club recently made it known through technical director Martin van Geel, head coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst and others that Feyenoord wanted to keep hold of the striker. The 34-year-old has now said that would like to play for one more season.

Costa Rica 2 Jamaica 2: Impressive McAnuff strike secures draw

A brilliant solo goal from Jobi McAnuff saw Jamaica return to the CONCACAF Gold Cup with a draw in an end-to-end encounter against Costa Rica in California on Wednesday.

With his side trailing by a goal early in the second half at the Stubhub Center just outside Los Angeles, McAnuff dribbled past two opponents to get into the box and then poked his shot under Costa Rica goalkeeper Esteban Alvarado to secure a 2-2 draw.

Having failed to qualify for the 2013 Gold Cup, Jamaica had entered this year s tournament on the back of a three-game losing streak at the Copa America but gave as good as they got against the three-time CONCACAF champions.

While Wednesday s match featured some questionable defending at both ends, it did not detract from the entertainment value a…

Nuno hails ´relentless´ Wolves after Man City victory

A proud Nuno Espirito Santo hailed his relentless Wolves team after a 3-2 win over Manchester City in the Premier League on Friday.

Wolves found themselves 2-0 behind at the Molineux after Raheem Sterling s brace followed Ederson s 12th-minute red card for City.

However, they fought back and goals from Adama Traore, Raul Jimenez and Matt Doherty saw them stun City and climb into fifth in the table.

Nuno lauded his team for their fight as they moved to within eight points of third-placed City.

We are relentless and will keep on going, it doesn t matter what happens, we want to compete, the Wolves head coach said, via the club s website.

Of course, they were blocking our game, on our right side, but most important was staying in the game. Concedin…

Aberdeen 17/20 to beat Ross County in Saturday’s Scottish Premiership showdown

Market: Aberdeen win

Odds: 17/20 @

Given extra time off, Aberdeen should be confident of making an immediate return to winning ways when they travel to Ross County on Saturday afternoon.

Starting with the hosts, while Ross County might have managed to land a much-needed 2-0 win against Hibernian when drawing a close to 2020, it appears that could have just been a minor bounce for the Staggies. Still sat rock-bottom of the table and tipped by many to be the leading relegation scrapper this season, John Hughes men were last seen putting in another sluggish display away at a high-flying Livingston. Shipping two late goals and eventually leaving the Tony Macaroni Arena on the wrong end of a 3-1 defeat, County have managed to win just one of their last 15 Premiershi…

Muricy Ramalho could be in line to land Brazil’s top job

President of Brazil’s Sao Paolo FC Juvenal Juvencio says that his first team coach Muricy Ramalho should be the person to take over from current national team manager Dunga.

In line for their sixth Brazilian Serie A title and third in a row, Juvencio said that his coach would be the most suitable as he has the respect throughout Brazil.

Ramalho’s contract ends at the end of the 2009 season and it has been the coach’s ambition to coach the Brazilian national team one day.

Europa League preview: Bale set to give Inter headaches

Inter Milan host Tottenham in the pick of the Europa League fixtures on Thursday after their last-gasp 3-2 win over Catania on Sunday.

Tottenham s stocks could not be higher after defeating north London rivals Arsenal 2-1 on Sunday to move up to third in the Premier League, nor could their star winger s Gareth Bale who was on the scoresheet again.

Spurs other speedster Aaron Lennon scored the second goal against the Gunners and is reported to be on Inter s transfer radar, adding more spice to the round-of-16 clash.

Bale carved Inter to pieces and then right-back Maicon with a breathtaking hat-trick when the sides last met in European competition in 2010-11.

The Welsh winger s cameo earned Spurs a 4-3 loss away from home in the first leg of their Champions…

Ancelotti: I could never manage Atleti or Barca

Carlo Ancelotti insists he could never manage Atletico Madrid or Barcelona out of respect for Real Madrid s rivalry with the two clubs.

The Bayern Munich boss spent two years in Madrid, beating Atleti in the Champions League final in 2014.

And Ancelotti believes that his managerial history means that any return to Spain would have to come at Santiago Bernabeu.

No, I will never train [Atleti or Barca], the Italian told Marca. I respect the history of the rivalry and in the same way, I couldn t train either Lazio or Inter.

It s my story and respect is very important. I have a lot of respect for Atletico and Barcelona, but I can t train them because I ve coached Real Madrid for two years.

Ancelotti will take his Bayern side to Atleti s Vicente Ca…

Galaxy: Future Gerrard loan not discussed

LA Galaxy president Chris Klein has not discussed the prospect of Steven Gerrard joining a European team on loan during MLS close-season.

Gerrard s expected move to MLS Cup winners Galaxy was confirmed on Wednesday, with the midfielder who turns 35 in May  set to join when his Liverpool contract expires.

Several players have opted to make temporary switches to clubs in Europe from MLS teams in the past, with former Galaxy star David Beckham having enjoyed two spells at Milan and ex-New York Red Bulls striker Thierry Henry having returned to Arsenal in 2012 for a four-game stint.

The issue has sparked debate recently after Frank Lampard delayed his move to new MLS franchise New York City FC to extend his loan deal at Manchester City until the end of the seaso…

Ruthless Ronaldo punishes mistakes as Lukaku´s absence leaves Inter looking lost

Antonio Conte muttered to himself and looked rather resigned as Arturo Vidal angrily gestured towards him while being replaced by Christian Eriksen on Tuesday. Perhaps he realised his errors had already done irreparable damage.

Juventus went on to put one foot in the Coppa Italia final with a 2-1 win at Inter in their semi-final first leg, with Conte seemingly made to rue a tactical set-up that invited pressure in the absence of talisman Romelu Lukaku.

While Inter s second-half display in San Siro showed evidence of Conte wising up to his team s problems, it was too little, too late as the Nerazzurri were unable to rescue a game lost in the first half.

A chief component of Inter s struggles here was rooted in last week s quarter-final win over bitter rivals Milan…

Ancelotti admits Napoli looked ´tired´ in Barcelona defeat

Napoli coach Carlo Ancelotti said an intense month of pre-season training and friendlies had left his players tired in their 4-0 defeat to Barcelona, but he insisted his squad is ready for the new Serie A season.

Second-half goals from Antoine Griezmann and Ousmane Dembele, along with a brace from Luis Suarez after the break, earned Barcelona a convincing win in Michigan, though Ancelotti claimed the opening two strikes should not have stood.

Suarez buried the rebound after a Griezmann shot was saved in the 48th minute, and the Frenchman scored himself eight minutes later after a pass from Jordi Alba, who appeared to be in an offside position.

Ancelotti defended his side s performance, telling reporters: We played well in the first half but then we were affec…
