Gerrard backs Liverpool for 2017-18 success

Steven Gerrard believes success is around the corner for Liverpool if they manage to improve their record against the smaller teams.

Jurgen Klopp s men finished fourth in the Premier League table in 2016-17, a huge 17 points behind champions Chelsea.

They impressed against the top teams, though, as they remained unbeaten against their top-six rivals and Gerrard is confident they are on the right track.

We have got a fantastic manager at the helm. I think Liverpool are very, very close, Gerrard told BT Sport.

If you look at the statistics in the top six, they are the best team in terms of head-to-head.

Verdict in Manchester City case set to have huge Premier League impact as hearing draws near

With the exception of 2019/20, when Liverpool took the throne for a year, Manchester City have won the Premier League title every season since 2017/18 under Pep Guardiola s guidance. Even before the ex-Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach took the reigns, they won it twice, in 2011/12 under Roberto Mancini, and in 2013/14 when Manuel Pellegrini sat in the dugout.

However, the apparently unbeatable City are currently being charged over numerous breaches of Premier League s financial rules. Since the original story of 115 broke out, the number has reportedly risen to 130. The hearing is set to start in September and last 10 weeks, and the verdict is expected to be made known early in 2025.

However, City obviously have no intention of going down without a fight. They have cat…

Euro 2008 semi-finalists decided: Who’s HOT and who’s NOT, volume 4!

Day sixteen of the Euro 2008 tournament saw the long awaited quarter-final between the exciting, young and in form Spain side and the dull, old and out of form Italians.

The game turned out to be a major disappointment for anyone other than the most fanatical connoisseur of the game who may possibly have squeezed some enjoyment out of the defensive qualities of the Italians. For the neutral fan, it was simply the most negative display that you could imagine and one that seemed designed to take the game to a penalty shoot-out.

The tactic worked, but Spain won the shoot-out which was probably for the good of football as a whole.

With the quarter-finals now completed it is time to look at who is HOT and who is NOT, so far in the competition. Have the award winners …

Morocco v Croatia: 2018 finalists out to provide indication of Qatar 2022 intentions

Recent history suggests the outcome of Croatia s World Cup Group F opener against Morocco on Wednesday will give a good indication as to how far they can go at Qatar 2022.

After all, Croatia have lost their opening match in three of their five appearances at the World Cup, and on those occasions they failed to get out of the group.

In the two exceptions, they found themselves among the last four, with Zlatko Dalic guiding Croatia all the way to the final four years ago, ultimately losing to France.

While they may have been a little Jekyll and Hyde in nature in the past, there is undoubtedly an underlying feeling of confidence ahead of the matchday one encounter with Morocco at Al Bayt Stadium, the scene of Qatar s 2-0 defeat to Ecuador on Sunday.

FIFA candidate Sheikh Salman denies investigating athletes in 2011 protests

FIFA presidential candidate Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim al-Khalifa has emphatically denied involvement in investigating and prosecuting athletes during democracy protests in Bahrain in 2011.

Sheikh Salman, president of the Asian Football Confederation, joined the race to replace outgoing FIFA boss Sepp Blatter prior to the Monday deadline for submissions for candidacy.

However, the former head of the Bahrain Football Association has faced criticism from human rights groups since announcing his intention to stand.

The 49-year-old is a member of Bahrain s royal family, who have been regularly condemned over allegations of oppression of pro-democratic demonstrations and the use of torture.

An article in British newspaper The Guardian cited a 2011 Bahrain…

Patriots vs Steelers Week 2 Props: An Ascending Tight End Shines in Three Rivers Rock Fight

Two vestiges of the AFC of old will meet in Week 2, as the 0-1 New England Patriots travel to face the 1-0 Pittsburgh Steelers.

New England couldn’t have feared a worse opening day, losing 20-7 to Miami while its clown car offensive coaching staff appeared equal parts clueless and uninspiring. Pittsburgh, meanwhile, turned the page from Ben Roethlisberger’s hefty chapter to a new era, with Mitch Trubisky guiding it to a divisional win over Cincinnati.

With one of the lowest totals on the NFL betting board this week, there isn’t going to be fireworks in Pittsburgh Sunday — but that doesn’t mean there isn’t value in the NFL player props market, and we break it down with our Patriots vs. Steelers prop picks.

Best NFL Touchdown Props for Week 12: Running Away From The Pack

Not all TD markets are created equal and there is plenty of value to be had with shopping around and getting the best NFL odds possible. But that’s just one aspect of creating a profitable NFL props touchdown card week to week.

Looking over the NFL Week 12 odds, I’m getting one of the best holiday scorers in NFL history at +250, hitting a receiver whose production over the last two weeks has been off the charts, and then getting +650 for a backup in Jacksonville who is getting the short-yardage carries.

Here are my three best NFL picks for the anytime touchdown market.

Super Bowl Predictions: Nick Bosa to Record a Sack Against Patrick Mahomes

Super Bowl 58 has superstar players on both sides of the ball and San Francisco’s Nick Bosa might be the best defensive player of the bunch. Bosa’s ability to pressure Chiefs superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes could be one of the most pivotal storylines in our Super Bowl predictions.

Bosa hasn’t lived up to his lofty standards this season, and coupled with the Chiefs allowing the second-fewest sacks in the NFL, his defensive player props are currently at lower numbers than usual. That makes it extremely tempting to bet the Over on Nick Bosa odds this Sunday.

I break down the Super Bowl odds and bring you my free NFL picks for Bosa at Super Bowl 58.
