Lance carted off in opening quarter of 49ers clash with Seahawks

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance left the field in an air cast after suffering a rough ankle injury against the Seattle Seahawks.

Named starting quarterback for the season, the third overall draft pick from the 2021 NFL draft completed 13 of 28 passes for 164 yards and an interception in the 49ers Week 1 defeat against the Chicago Bears in poor weather.

The 49ers had high hopes for the 22-year-old, with Sunday s hosting of the Seahawks representing his first game at Levi s Stadium as a starter in the regular season.

His game lasted less than two drives, however, suffering an ankle injury after a rushing attempt and being replaced on the field by Jimmy Garoppolo.

The 49ers swiftly confirmed that Lance would be out for the remainder of the game, t…

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has returned to Ibrox as the new manager of Rangers.

The former Netherlands international has been charged with replacing Steven Gerrard, who left the Scottish Premiership champions to take over as Aston Villa boss last week.

Van Bronckhorst won five trophies with the Glasgow giants in his playing days, including two league titles.

The 46-year-old masterminded Feyenoord s 2016-17 Eredivisie title triumph, while he also lifted the KNVB Cup twice and the Johan Cruyff Shield before taking charge of Chinese Super League club Guangzhou City last year.

Van Bronckhorst is relishing the challenge of winning more honours at Rangers.

Everton 1-0 Manchester United: Gordon breathes new life into Toffees´ survival bid

Anthony Gordon scored the only goal as relegation-threatened Everton dented Manchester United s Champions League qualifying hopes with a 1-0 win at Goodison Park.

The Toffees boosted their Premier League survival bid with Gordon s deflected first-half strike sealing consecutive home victories for the first time since September.

United remain three points off the top four, although the deficit could be extended to six should either Arsenal or Tottenham win later today.

Meanwhile, Everton move four points clear of the relegation zone after only a third success in 10 league games under Frank Lampard, who was under pressure following the 3-2 loss to fellow strugglers Burnley on Wednesday.

PSG set for Boateng talks

According to Bild, Jerome Boateng wants to leave Bayern Munich and talks with Paris Saint-Germain have been arranged for today. The 29-year-old defender has been with the German club since 2011 and in that time, he s been able to establish himself as one of the best defenders in Europe if not the world.

Alas, his recent World Cup performances have left many questioning whether or not he can still compete at the highest level, even though it seems as if there s an obvious answer to that. Boateng hasn t been shy when it comes to revealing that he is desperate to win another Champions League title, and he ll likely base the decision regarding his future on which club can provide him with the best opportunity to do so.

Manchester United were also interested but Boateng wasn…

Henderson: Liverpool´s Premier League title failure tough to take

Jordan Henderson admits Liverpool s failure to win the Premier League title is tough to take after Manchester City produced a stunning second-half comeback against Aston Villa to end the Reds quadruple hopes.

Liverpool went into the Premier League s final day needing a win – and a slip-up from Pep Guardiola s men – to be crowned champions.

And despite falling behind to Wolves through Pedro Neto s early goal, the Reds were given hope when City went 2-0 down against Steven Gerrard s Villa.

Although Liverpool recovered to seal a 3-1 win through goals from Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, and Andrew Robertson, they ended the season one point behind Guardiola s team after an Ilkay Gundogan double fired City to an incredible 3-2 victory.

Barnstorming De Bruyne bullies gutless Gunners as Foden succeeds in Silva´s place

There was a time when the thought of Manchester City without David Silva would have left supporters in a nervous sweat, such has been his influence and impact in the Premier League.

The crafty Spaniard will arguably go down as the greatest import in Premier League history, with his technical and passing abilities almost unrivalled, while he has enjoyed incredible success with City.

Yet, if Sunday s exceptional 3-0 demolition of Arsenal proved anything about City, it s that their midfield now looks better without Silva, who will depart at the end of the season.

One man stood out in particular in north London.

He was everywhere!

Hibernian 0-2 Celtic: McGregor stunner helps Bhoys to win

Callum McGregor scored a stunner to help Celtic to a 2-0 victory over Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday.

Nicolas Kuhn had opened the scoring early on, though Kieron Bowie almost forced a nervy ending only to be denied by the woodwork.

Celtic wasted no time in asserting their dominance, as Kyogo Furuhashi s saved shot was kept in by James Forrest, who set Kuhn up to tap into the empty net after just three minutes.

McGregor soon stole the headlines though as he got the ball out of his feet before sending a swerving long-range effort over Josef Bursik.

He almost got a second just after half-time too, as he tried his luck from the edge of the box once more, but his deflected strike struck the post.
